He's using NI's drum machine to program in live beats and loop those, and it appears he's then using Traktor as a sort of software DJ mixer / DJ source / effects unit. This shouldn't be a big deal; in an ideal world, we'd have lots of DJs ... The bad news is, the installation and setup is pretty involved, and it's Mac-only. I like the idea – part of the vision of TwitterDJ is getting DJs reporting tracks they're playing, so producers get paid when their music is played. ...Imagine you're a dj and those sound effects built-in the mixer are boring, so you want something new? USB MSC is only for storage, you can not play files that have been transferred without the help of their proprietary software. I can see no reason why Tonium would want to lock out non-win/non-mac users… can anybody give me a clue? ...Here's a superb reader tip: DJ Josef Prusa has been using SugarSync to synchronize Native Instruments' Traktor Pro DJ software, so that he and his brother have their full music collection at the ready at gigs. It's just a controller in a mixer layout; any mixing and DJ functions are provided by your software. But it is freely-licensed from the ground up, under a Creative Commons license. For DJs like Manuela Krause, it's the Traktor software, not the Stanton hardware, that makes digital DJing a draw. Now NI just has to figure out what hardware will be ideal for this market … perhaps a laptop-based cupholder for our cocktails? .... That and the fact that the damn FS2 scratchamp would never work right with the Mac's leaves me in a daunting position..hopefully this break up will only flame the solutions and evolution of the 2 ground breaking ...
